MIssing Root certificate on old Android devices

On February 8, 2024, the well-known root CA Let's Encrypt made a change to its certificate chain. As described in the associated article, owners of "old" Android devices may now have to install an additional root certificate manually.

Many well-known live tracking/upload servers (e.g. dhv-xc) use certificates from this company. Because manufacturers do not maintain the system certificate lists on "old" devices (such as my Note3), communication can be blocked.

This has happened now, because TotalVario relies on the native certificate store of your Android device to be able to communicate with these servers.

To work around this problem, you can download the ISRG Root X1 certificate and add it to your device's user certificate list.

  • Save the certificate file to your Android download folder.
  • Either import the certificate (look for the related option in Android device settings / security), or use a file manager app like Total Commander (open the download folder, simply click on the certificate file and follow the instructions.

This will also fix the same problem for other apps on your device.
